The cost for Religious Education is $40 per student, $20 for each additional sibling, and $80 family maximum. The cost applies to all of our Religious Education programs: K-5th Grade Religious Education, 10th and 11th Grade Confirmation, and our Edge and Life Teen programs.
Kindergarten, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade All non-Sacrament preparation classes (Kinder, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades) will meet on Sundays from 8:30am-9:45am in the SMS Elementary building. These classes will be capped at 15 students to enable distancing in the classroom. Registration for these classes will be on a first come, first serve basis. If any students are not able to attend one of the classes because it has reached the 15 student limit, then they will be given the option to take the class online. 1st Communion Classes - 1st and 2nd Grade 1st and 2nd Grade Communion Classes will meet after the 10am Mass on Sundays from 11:15am-12:30pm either in the Holy Family Center or the SMS Cafeteria. These classes will meet at this time in order to use the HFC and the SMS Cafeteria to allow for distancing. Please see the Religious Education Policies for details.
1st Communion Class - 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade If you child is in 3rd, 4th, or 5th Grade, has not received 1st Communion, and was in Religious Education Classes last year (2019-2020 academic year), then your child will be in the 3rd, 4th, 5th Grade Communion Class which is held on Sundays from 8:30am-9:45am in the SMS Cafeteria.
Classes for unbaptized children over the age of 7 This class is the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) adapted for children and will meet every Wednesday at 6pm in the Holy Family Center.
Confirmation classes - 10th and 11th Grade Confirmation is a two year program which begins in the 10th grade and is finished in the 11th grade. Classes are every Sunday from 8:30am-9:45am in the Holy Family Center.
Catechists Needed! The Religious Education program is in need of assistant and substitute teachers for Elementary and Confirmation Religious Education. Substitutes would be called upon only during those times when a Religious Education Catechist cannot attend a class. Catechists and Substitutes must be practicing Catholics in good standing who will abide by the teachings of the Catholic Church.
